Ministries

Volunteers are requested and needed in each of these ministries. Many are called but few answer. We all have talents to give back to Our Lord by serving His people and His Church on earth.

Angels of Mercy

The Angels of Mercy reaches out to those in need, both financially and personally to comfort one of God’s least of our brethren. Visiting the sick and aged, just to talk and let them know they have not been forgotten. Provide transportation to the store and/or doctor for those when needed. Providing other forms of assistance when needed.

Bereavement/Prayer Network

This is truly one of our more silent and often unnoticed ministries but certainly one of our more powerful ones within our community family. This is the group that is notified when prayers are needed for the sick, family need requests and also when there is a death in our church community. Those that serve in this ministry lend the support and help that is often needed in times of illness and deaths. We all recognize the power of prayer and the comfort it brings to the individual and the family.

Building Committee

Jim Hudson –386-935-1301

Finance Council

Both, the Building Committee and the Finance Council are vital to the success of San Juan Catholic Church Mission. Without their efforts the Mission could not be able to perform the duties assigned by our Pastor. Persons with the proper qualifications and skills, dictated by their specific ministry, will be giving their time and talents for the betterment of our church and its people.

Elizabeth Ministry

This ministry is directed to the women of our community through prayer, advice, and offering of comfort. The rose buds available in a vase in church represent: pink for pregnancy, yellow for ones waiting to conceive, red for newborn babies and white for any that is lost either through miscarriage or still birth and/or abortion, we give our support and let the women who attach their name to one of the rose buds know they are not alone. We encourage our parishioners, especially our older women to be aware of this ministry and encourage any young woman to avail herself of it. The hope is that these women can then act as her Elizabeth Minister by being available for the young woman to talk to and confide in, if she wishes to do so.

Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist

This very special calling to serve our Lord has a great need within our Mission Church and is a very rewarding and humbling experience. The men and women that serve in this ministry assist the priest during Sunday and Wednesday Masses. They also volunteer to take Communion to our church family members who are home bound due to illness or age. The Eucharist is the very center of our faith and must be made available to all those in a state of grace.

Hospitality

Here we welcome all new members and guests to our community. They introduce these persons to other members, as well as the history of San Juan Mission and the various ministries within our community.

Knights of Columbus

Knights are Catholic men, 18 years of age and older, who are committed to making their community a better place, while supporting their Church. Being a Knight is more than camaraderie; it is being involved with your community; it is supporting your local Catholic Church, while enhancing your own faith; it is about protecting and enhancing your family life.

Liturgy

This ministry like all the others has an important role within our faith community. Liturgical changes are introduced as requested by our pastor. Coordination between the various ministries that make up the liturgy of the Mass and the faith community is fostered through the efforts of this ministry.
Deacon  Paul

Music/Choir

This ministry is a significant part of our liturgy, and the persons that work in this ministry lead our family community singing our praises to our Lord. Only through the participation of its members can we enrich the Mass and the sacrifice of the Eucharist.

Prayer Shawl

The women that make up this ministry hand-make shawls for those that may be ill or aged. They meet weekly for prayer, religious background music and conversation while performing this charitable work. All women are invited to participate, or to join and learn knitting or crocheting while participating.

Readers/Lectors

This is also a very rewarding ministry to serve our Lord. To present the Word of Jesus Christ to His faith community leading up to the gospel by the Priest or Deacon is very gratifying and humbling.
George Hertel – 386-935-1019

Religious Education

This ministry is one of the most important and often the least appreciated ministries within any of our Catholic communities. Most important because these men and women devote many hours of their time in preparing to assist the parents of our children to learn about the Catholic Church and faith and to get ready to receive the sacraments. Least appreciated because we often take for granite the work that is performed by these special teachers. Every Catholic community needs knowledgeable and dedicated teachers to lead or assist in the instruction of our children.

Respect Life

This is a very vital and respected ministry, within our parish community, the diocese and the whole Catholic Church, as well as the Christian churches around the world. Protecting the unborn child and the aged or terminally ill is our duty and is demanded by our Lord.
Suzanne Riordan 386-935-4136

Sacristans

This ministry has the responsibility to prepare the church for the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and to assist the celebrant in his preparation before the Mass. In addition there are the duties after Mass to ensure each of the sacramentals are properly cleaned and stored for the next celebration of the Mass or other liturgy.
Ann Lemon 386-935-4801

Ushers/Greeters

The ushers and greeters are the first people to greet our members, guests and visitors. There is a special feeling when someone greets and helps the people when they enter our church to attend Mass or other services. People often form their first impressions and opinions about our church by the way they are greeted. It is important that those serving in this ministry keep in mind that they are truly serving the Lord by serving others.

Women’s Guild

This ministry has been with San Juan Mission for many years. It was the first service organization that was created at San Juan Mission. These ladies have been the backbone of our mission and continue to support it in many ways. They also have many service projects and organizations that they support either financially or through prayer. This is truly a service organization and one that is most rewarding to all its members.
